French Agency For Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (Anses)

Created in 2010, the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (Anses) is a public administrative institution reporting to the Ministers for Health, Agriculture, Environment, Labour and Consumer Affairs.

Ansesundertakes independent and pluralistic scientific expert assessments. Its primary task is to ensure human health and safety with regard to the environment, the workplace and food. It assesses the impact of the environment on human health, so as to better identify health risks related to pollution in the living environment (air, water, soil) and to physical agents (electromagnetic fields and waves).

The Agency is strongly committed to contributing to scientific expertise at the European Union and international levels, through its involvement with EU Agencies and committees as well as with international scientific panels set up by organisations such as the WHO, FAO and OECD. The Agency also relies on a network of 9 reference and research laboratories located throughout France that are internationally recognized in various fields or disciplines and which are in geographical proximity to their respective sectors.
