Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT)

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a large teaching hospital. It has a strong and vibrant research institute (www.bradfordresearch.nhs.uk) with a focus on applied health research. It is the host and sponsor for the highly successful Born in Bradford (BIB) birth cohort.

Born in Bradford (BiB) is a richly-characterized prospective pregnancy/birth cohort of over 12,500 families based in the 6th largest city in the UK. The study was established between 2007-2011 to examine how genetic, nutritional, environmental, behavioural and social factors affect health and development during childhood and into adult life, in a deprived multi-ethnic population. BiB was developed in collaboration with local people, clinicians and policy makers, with commitment to undertake research that would both inform interventions to improve health in the city and generate robust science relevant to the UK and across the world.
