University Of Crete (UOC)

The University of Crete (UOC) is a young and dynamic academic institution committed to excellence in research and teaching. UOC has 17 Departments in 5 Faculties: Philosophy, Education, Social Sciences, Sciences & Technology and Medicine. The research and associated educational and training opportunities within the University are expanded through its close collaboration with the Institutes of the Foundation for Research and Technology- Hellas (FORTH). According to The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, UOC has been ranked in the top 300 World Universities in five domains (Teaching, Research, Citations, Industry income, and International outlook) for 2014-2015.

The main UOC department participating in ATHLETE is the Department of Social Medicine with a staff of about 50 faculty members and research associates in the sections of Clinical Epidemiology, Environmental Epidemiology, Primary Care, Biostatistics, and Health Services. UOC conducts the Mother Child cohort in Crete (Rhea study) which is the only pregnancy cohort established in Greece.

Main tasks in the project
UOC is participating in WPs 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 and provides data from the “Rhea” pregnancy cohort in Crete, Greece. Rhea is a prospective birth cohort study examining how early life nutritional, environmental, biological and social stressors affect child health and development.
